Wade Phillips press conference 12/19/07

New, comments

Wade: Tony Romo practiced the whole practice. I thought we might hold him out some but he got better and better as the practice went, he threw downfield, it looks like he’ll play to me. I thought we’d hold him out if he couldn’t throw all the passes, but he threw them all. He’s a little sore on the follow-through, he can grip the ball but the follow-through hurts him a little. He was accurate today. Gurode and Watkins did rehab today. Terry Glenn practiced a little 7-on-7 and caught a couple of passes, he ran some routes, he also worked on the side and said he felt good. He did not participate in team drills.

Are you less-inclined to think Glenn could play this week?
Less-inclined would be a good word but I wouldn’t rule him out. He said he felt good. It may have to be next game because this game comes so quickly.

Have you worked an emergency QB more this week and is that guy Crayton?
We haven’t worked anybody more this week. Yeah, if everything falls apart, it’s Crayton.

Did Brad Johnson get more snaps?
He took his normal snaps that he has all along. Tony was throwing the ball well today.

Roy Williams’ appeal?
Roy was suspended for this game, he can come back Sunday. They ruled on it. We know where we are, Keith Davis will have to play. I didn’t think he had much of a chance on appeal. They sent him a letter before letting him know so I didn’t think they would change their mind.

Courtney Brown’s inexperience a worry?
Anytime your starting guy is out other than injury it puts you in a bind. With Pat Watkins being out, two safeties out, it will test our depth. I have confidence the guys will come through.

Will Keith do all the sub-package work that Roy did, like at LB?
Keith has been working it in practice all year; we work our 2nd group some. Any situation where Roy is playing, in most cases it will be Keith.

What do you like about Keith Davis?
He’s a real pro, he works at it, does the right thing in practice. He works at what he does and he played well in the preseason.

With Andre Gurode missing will you change anything you do with Cory Procter?
No we won’t change. They have to come in and work with what we do.

Will you take Keith Davis off of some special teams?
We may have to cut back Keith, he’s on all special teams. He can’t do all that and the defensive plays, too.

Do you think Gurode and Watkins will play against Washington?
I think so, that’s what Dr. Wade thinks. That’s what I’m hearing.

Steve Smith’s production is down?
All the change at QB hurt their offense overall. They played well lately, at home lately and on defense. They beat a division-winning playoff team last week at home. We’re a division-winning playoff team.

Matt Moore?
He’s shown a lot of poise, he didn’t turn the ball over last week. Vets turn it over and get sacked but he didn’t, so they did a good job with him.
