The Playmaker will have to make plays somewhere else this year. He and ESPN are done.
[Michael] Irvin and ESPN have officially parted ways, ESPN spokesman Bill Hoffheimer said Saturday.
"Michael will not be with us this fall," Hoffheimer said.
Hoffheimer stressed that Irvin had not violated any contractual morals clause. Irvin has been a regular on ESPN's two primary NFL studio shows, Sunday NFL Countdown and Monday Night NFL Countdown.
"This was a decision that came from our annual review," Hoffheimer said.
As much as I liked Irvin as a player, I never quite warmed to him as an analyst. He never told me anything that I didn't know, and he spent a lot of time gossiping and name-dropping. Word is that the Tuna will replace him.
