And what of the defensive coordinator? This from a San Diego newspaper, discussing the Chargers recent hire of another secondary coach to pair with current coach Brian Stewart.
First, the Chargers tried having two assistants for that position in 2004 and '05, an experiment that resulted in a fractured secondary listening to different ideas. Assistant Albert Lewis was fired after the '05 season, leaving Stewart as the lone voice. The Chargers secondary had its best statistical season in almost a decade in 2006.
Second, Stewart is being sought by Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips to be his defensive coordinator. The Chargers, however, will not let Stewart out of his contract.
