Brian Stewart free to become Cowboys defensive coordinator

Brian Stewart has been released from his contract with the San Diego Chargers and is free to take the Defensive Coordinator position with the Cowboys. Hat tip to BTB reader MysterD who broke the news on this blog by posting a diary with the news that Brian Stewart will be coming to Dallas. By the way, that's great use of a diary, if I'm away from the computer and don't post breaking news, feel free to post it in a diary. Here's what the local San Diego paper says:

Chargers defensive backs coach Brian Stewart has been released from his contract and will become the Dallas Cowboys' defensive coordinator.

The DMN has an article that doesn't call it a done deal, but it's a done deal.

The Cowboys will speak with former San Diego Chargers defensive backs coach Brian Stewart about joining the staff now that he has been released from his contract.

Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said "nothing is finalized."

The Cowboys have not spoken to Stewart, who was flying from San Diego to Indianapolis on Saturday, but bad weather delayed his arrival.

There's no way Jerry and Wade waited this long to not hire Stewart. And Stewart's not about to bail out of one job with knowing he has another lined up. This is a good thing for the Cowboys because Stewart can speed the process of implementing the new defense and he will know what Wade wants to do on game day.
