Cowboys news and notes

Good catch by BTB regular BurtD, who posted a diary on the subject of Mat McBriar. He found this blurb at the bottom of a Clarence Hill article.

The Cowboys would like to get a long-term deal done with restricted free-agent punter Mat McBriar before the start of free agency next week. If they don't, look for the Cowboys to offer McBriar a one-year deal worth $1.3 million, which includes a compensation tag of a second-round draft pick if the 2006 Pro Bowl selection signs with another team.

That's a win either way. If he stays you got one of the best punters in the league. If he leaves, you get a 2nd round pick in the draft. That's called a win-win.

Wade Phillips personally went to Norv Turner to get Brain Stewart released from his contract.

Turner initially rejected Stewart's request to leave. But Turner and Phillips, who was the Chargers' defensive coordinator from 2004 through last season, spoke in Indianapolis at the Scouting Combine. Stewart arrived in Indianapolis last night and spoke with Turner.

From KFFL.com:

During his NFL Combine interview, Florida State LB Lawrence Timmons said he spoke with the Dallas Cowboys.

During his NFL Combine interview, Georgia DE Charles Johnson said he talked with the Dallas Cowboys. He was told by the team that he would work at outside linebacker.

During his NFL Combine interview, Central Michigan DE Dan Bazuin said the Dallas Cowboys talked to him and asked if he could play outside linebacker in a 3-4 defensive scheme.

The Dallas Cowboys have expressed interest in NFL draft prospect WR Aundrae Allison (East Carolina).
