Cowboys could be interested in free agent FB

New, comments

Fullback news! OK, I admit, it's not much, but at least it tells me the Cowboys are considering adding some new personnel to the FB position. All my belly-aching may not go to waste.

From KFFL:

Cowboys | Team has shown interest in Leach
Ralph Vacchiano, of the New York Daily News, reports the Dallas Cowboys have shown interest in restricted free-agent FB Vonta Leach (Texans).

From Vacchiano's blog:

It's possible that he will visit Dallas sometime this week.

Also from KFFL, the same news but from a different source.
Cowboys | Leach may visit
Darren Urban, of the East Valley Tribune, reports the Dallas Cowboys may meet with restricted free-agent FB Vonta Leach (Texans).

Leach is 6 foot and weighs about 250 lbs. He is a RFA, but was an undrafted free agent originally signed by the Green Bay Packers, so the Texans won't receive compensation if he leaves. Here's is how the Texans' site describes him:
As a powerful lead blocker, plays like a third guard on running plays and has improved as a receiver out of the backfield...Also a contributor on special teams, with nine coverage tackles in two-year pro career...Has no NFL carries, but five receptions for 19 yards, all in 2005... A former linebacker at East Carolina who switched to fullback four games into his junior year, he still utilizes linebacker skills on coverage units.

Now ESPN's scouts take:

Leach has some versatility and gives good effort. He is adequate in pass protection and on blitz pickups. He shows a little niftiness as a ball carrier. He can catch easy dump-offs and has a little wiggle in space. But Leach just isn't much of a blocker.

Doesn't that sound like they're describing two totally different players? Perhaps one of you knows more about him.

While I'm on my daily whine about the FB position, here is Vic Carucci's top 5 FB's in the draft.
