Good thing I didn’t put a lock on Brock to make the roster.
Just two days before the team's first mini-camp practice, the Cowboys have released quarterback Brock Berlin, who signed with the team back on April 25. But that was before the Cowboys signed rookie free agent Matt Moore, from Oregon State, after the draft. The Cowboys currently have four quarterbacks on the roster in Tony Romo, Brad Johnson, Matt Baker and Moore. Berlin had spent the previous two training camps with the Dolphins, where he played under Jason Garrett, who served as quarterbacks coach in Miami the last two years.
Archer has a look ahead at minicamp. Here’s his take on Bobby Carpenter.
Last year's No. 1 pick will be asked to do a lot of things. With Greg Ellis not expected to take part in the minicamp because of his rehab from a torn Achilles' tendong, I would expect Carpenter to be with the starters. The Cowboys will be asking Carpenter to do a lot this year, moving inside at times and also rushing the passer. As a rookie, it took Carpenter some times to get adjusted to the game, but he is smart enough and willing enough to play inside linebacker in the nickel defense and outside in the base scheme.
