Cowboys news and notes

K.C. Joyner is the man who likes to break down the NFL into very specific statistics, kind of like baseball. In his latest article, he talks about the truth/myth that top cornerbacks in the league are rarely thrown at. He notes that Champ Bailey and Chris McAlister were thrown at quite often. But, at the top of the list, is evidence that on the Cowboys, Terence Newman is rarely thrown at. Topping the charts as the most thrown at CB in the league – Anthony Henry.

In fact, the top-20 list of the most targeted cornerbacks from 2006 includes a slew of big names.

Check out the NFL Network tonight for a couple of vignettes on former Cowboys.

Other One-Shot Wonders from Dallas are cornerback Larry Brown, Super Bowl MVP for the ’95 Cowboys, and wide receiver Percy Howard, whose only NFL catch was a touchdown in Super Bowl X.

Frank Deford is a long-time sports journalist and is considered one of the best in the business. That’s why I was disappointed to read this lazy piece of journalism from him.

More often, though, there is the likes of Terrell Owens, he diagnosed with modesty deficiency syndrome, who was signed by Jerry Jones, the Dallas Cowboys owner — certain that the America's Team mystique would cure T.O. of his vanity and change him into a veritable St. Francis of Assisi in shoulder pads. Instead, more predictably, Owens roiled the team and essentially drove the frazzled coach into retirement.

T.O. didn’t drive Parcells into retirement. Lack of winning big and the constant time demands to win big drove him into retirement.

NFL.com has a piece on the Cowboys in terms of fantasy football. Here’s their top-5 Cowboys fantasy options:
