It looks like we got a new LB coach.
Wade Phillips will fill the final spot on his coaching staff by naming Reggie Herring as the Cowboys' linebackers coach, according to a source.
Herring was named defensive coordinator at Texas A&M in January by new coach Mike Sherman. He was Arkansas' interim head coach for the Cotton Bowl.
Herring, 48, has spent two years in the NFL, serving as Houston's linebackers coach in 2002-03 where he worked with Cowboys defensive coordinator Brian Stewart.
Hey, this is good news. I've actually seen some of Herring’s work, being a follower of southern college football. I think this will work out well. Nick Eatman has a nice run-down of his history, here, including the fact that when he worked with Stewart in Houston it was under Dom Capers. Could this be some kind of omen that Capers might still be coming as a consultant?
Hat tip to albyman32 for first posting the rumor that looks like fact in this diary.
My pet cat from last year just got signed by the Dolphins. Must be the Todd Bowles/Paul Psaqualoni/Jeff Ireland connection.
The Miami Dolphins signed cornerback Joey Thomas on Friday.
Thomas was a third-round draft pick in 2004 by Green Bay, where he spent his entire rookie season. He spent part of 2005 with the New Orleans Saints, and was with the Dallas Cowboys during training camp last season.
Nick Eatman goes deep against our secondary, picking it apart like a surgeon.
