This week's projection concern the RB position. According to the CBSSports.com projections, they see Marion Barber as the #23 RB with 785 yards and 8 rushing TDs, and they throw a couple of receiving TDs into the mix. Felix Jones is rated as the #29 RB with 809 yards and 5 TDs, plus 2 TDs receiving. Tashard Choice comes in much later with 272 yards and 3 TDs.
The Cowboys platoon system with Barber and Jones cuts into their value as fantasy contributors because it's hard to say which one will have the more dominant season and no one is quite sure how the Cowboys will deploy them on a regular basis. Injuries are also an issue as both backs have picked up minor to significant injuries over the past couple of seasons. The injuries open the door for Choice who is a valuable piece if he has to play significant minutes. It's hard to judge just how high you should draft a Cowboys RB, in real football all three are solid contributors, but in fantasy where more playing time usually means more points, they are question marks.
Jamey Eisenberg had this to say about Felix Jones in 2010:
In two playoff games with Barber limited due to injury, Jones had 30 carries for 217 yards and a touchdown, including a 73-yard run, and four catches for 52 yards. The problem for Jones has been staying healthy since he's missed 12 games in his first two years. But we're expecting Jones to see a bigger role this year, starter or not, and he's someone to target on Draft Day as a No. 3 Fantasy running back. Barber may end up with more touchdowns, but Jones can still produce enough to help your Fantasy roster for several weeks during the season.
We know that Jones has bulked up this offseason, maybe this will help him to absorb more punishment without injury. So, where would you draft the Cowboys running backs for fantasy in 2010?
Consider this an open thread to discuss Fantasy Football.
