Cowboys Sign Running Back Sammy Morris

Now a Cowboy...
Now a Cowboy...

The Cowboys needed help at running back, that much is for sure. Felix Jones finished the Giants game as the only running back active when DeMarco Murray was lost for the season. Today they signed veteran Sammy Morris to the roster. This is very important for the Cowboys - even after the gut-wrenching loss to the Giants, the Cowboys can still get to the playoffs. In fact, as we'll talk about later today, they control their own destiny. They also recently added Chauncey Washington to the practice squad when Phillip Tanner went on IR. They'll need someone to spell Felix Jones, looks like Morris might be the guy.

ESPN Dallas with a brief Morris bio:

Morris, 34, played 11 years in Buffalo, Miami and New England but has not played this year after getting cut by the Patriots in training camp. He had a workout with Kansas City this season.

To make room for Morris, the Texas Tech-ex, the Cowboys placed rookie running back DeMarco Murray on injured reserve because of an ankle injury suffered Sunday against the New York Giants and requires surgery.

The Cowboys also had to make a move at safety, Barry Church is done for the year.

The Cowboys have signed safety Mana Silva off Buffalo's practice squad with Barry Church heading to injured reserve because of a shoulder injury that will require surgery.

Silva, 6-0, 206, went to training camp with Baltimore as an undrafted free agent out of Hawaii and spent part of the season on the Ravens' practice squad. He had seven tackles in the preseason. At Hawaii, he intercepted 14 passes.
