Wes Bunting Mock Draft No. 1: Robert Quinn To Cowboys

Wes Bunting today released his much anticipated mock draft version 1.0. Wes Bunting is the National Football Post's draft guru, and is perched at the very top of BTBs draftnik rankings, which makes his opinion carry quite some weight around here.

And Bunting doesn't disappoint - his mock contains a couple of surprises and some interesting picks. The top two picks are Fairley and Peterson, no big surprise there, but with the third pick in the 2011 draft, Bunting has the Buffalo Bills taking Cam Newton, and two picks later, he has Blaine Gabbert going to the Cardinals. Two QBs in the top five is a surprise and ends up pushing one of the blue chip prospects Dallas way:

With the 9th pick in the 2011 draft, the Cowboys take Robert Quinn, Bunting writes:

Quinn was the best pure pass rusher I saw on tape during the 2009 season and getting a potential blue-chip pass rusher at this stage is a nice little grab for the Cowboys at nine.

Other notable selections

  • At pick #10, the Redskins get Tyron Smith, the highest ranked OT taken, the next offensive lineman goes at #19.
  • Ryan Mallet is the third QB to crack the top half of the first round, going #12 to the Vikings
  • Prince Amukamara is only the third CB taken at #17, after Brandon Harris at #13
  • Unsurprisingly, the Eagles go O-line and take Mike Pouncey at #23, Giants also go O-line, taking Anthony Castonzo at #19
