Here Be Dragons: NFL Enters Unchartered Territories With NFLPA Decertification

"Here be dragons" is a phrase used to denote dangerous or unexplored territories, in imitation of the medieval practice of putting sea serpents and other mythological creatures in blank areas of maps.

According to the Sports Business Journal, today the NFLPA got all medieval on the owners and decertified, moving this labor dispute into unchartered territory. To be fair, the players did this because the owners in turn were threatening to get all medieval on the players and locking them out.

Decertification means the player side gives up its rights to collectively bargain, allowing individual players to file antitrust claims against the NFL and the owners. Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Drew Brees will be some of the high profile lead plaintiffs to sue NFL. It's the start of a lengthy process that will almost certainly lead to a highly public court fight and may disrupt, delay and potentially even cancel the next NFL season.

Where the journey leads is anybody's guess. Just take care of the dragons that may be lurking out there. Safe travels my friends.
