Cowboys Draft Rumor: Patriots Target #9 For Cam Jordan

SB Nation Boston has posted on this bit of draft rumor that might just interest the folks here at BTB.

The New England Patriots have been tabbed to draft Cameron Jordan (DE, California) in a handful of 2011 NFL Mock Drafts (most recently, in Mike Mayock's and Rick Gosselin's projections). And the experts must be on to something because according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, the Pats are in talks with the Dallas Cowboys to trade-up to the No. 9 overall selection where they would take Jordan.

The Patriots have so many picks in this draft, you can do a myriad of compensation packages that could change the face of the Cowboys plans.

[UPDATE]Evan Silva of ProFootballTalk says the following:

According to both Michael Smith of ESPN and Adam Schefter of ESPN, the trade isn’t happening.

Smith, appearing on SportsCenter, explained that the Patriots don’t value “five-technique” defensive ends enough in this draft to trade into the top ten. Such a move likely would’ve cost New England a first- and second-round pick.

Schefter’s report/refute of Mort’s report is even stronger:

“Any proposed Cowboys-Patriots trade will not happen,” Schefter just tweeted.

It sounds like the Cowboys “leaked” the rumor to Mortensen, and Mort took the bait.
