Cowboys Tidbits Week In Review: Rex Ryan Must Want To Lose To Dallas

We all know the drill; tidbits bring you the latest Cowboys news you might have missed in the past week.

Saturday:

-- Here's the DMN long version. Here's the short version. The last time the Cowboys faced Rex Ryan was at the end of the 2008 season, when Baltimore closed out Texas Stadium with a 33-24 victory over Dallas. The Ravens used the 'we were chosen as a homecoming game' angle as motivation. Rex Ryan added a 'Jason Garrett didn't think the Ravens were good enough for him and passed us up' angle. Rex Ryan mocked the Cowboys 44-6 loss to Philly the next week as a karmic outcome, in the midst of talking a lot of trash in his book that was released this past May.

So, there's this game I noticed on the regular season schedule. It says Dallas Cowboys @ New York Jets. I'd imagine the Cowboys are well aware of Rex Ryan's interesting points of view. Let's get it.

-- Tom Osborn of the San Antonio Express takes a look at how well equipped Jason Garrett is to handle to compacted camp schedule the lockout caused. Nothing really revelatory, but some quotes from Jay Novacek and Babe Laufenberg are included.

-- Our own Kegbearer takes an intricate look at Rob Ryan's defense, specifically the defensive line, and how he possibly will deploy the players currently on the depth chart at defensive end and nose tackle. Must read material. [BTB]

Friday:

-- DMN has disturbingly taken to splitting up interview nuggets into several blog posts. I'll link to this one, as it's former Cowboys great Charles Haley discussing coaches Barry Switzer and Jimmy Johnson. The quote I love?

There was always something dumb going on. You have to stay on these young guys to get them to be great. They don't have direction.

--DMN

-- ESPN.com's Todd Archer takes a look at the fortune (?) of the Cowboys having a top 10 pick this year, as opposed to others. The new CBA will give the team an option for a fifth year on the contract for rookie tackle Tyron Smith.

-- Cowboys WR Dez Bryant has been scheduled with a court date in the civil suit filed against him. Dez will appear in January 2012 in a case that alleges he owes $600,000 over jewelry loaned to him. [DMN]

-- Earlier in the day, quotes from Dez Bryant's Ben and Skin interview made the rounds. Included: Martellus Bennett interview, one on one work and other topics. [BTB]

Thursday

-- Our own O.C.C. took a comprehensive look at the continuing development of Cowboys signal caller Tony Romo. Another must read. [BTB]

-- O.C.C. also looks at some of the reactions to a proposed Jerry Jones rule in the next CBA; a soft salary cap. [BTB]

Wednesday:

-- It looks like Jason Garrett's been watching my team in BTB's BoTB All-Cowboys tournament. The team has decided to bring in former defensive lineman Leon Lett to assist with the line in training camp. Lett played in Jimmy Johnson's 4-3 over defense, but will be assisting Rob Ryan and Brian Baker with their multitude of fronts based out of 3-4 personnel. For the record, Lett is running nose tackle in my Cowboys 2-6 super package. [ESPN]

-- Our own rabblerousr gives us the skinny on Tony Romo's quote filled Wednesday. [BTB]

Tuesday:

-- Dallas head coach Jason Garrett summoned all of the coaching staff back to Valley Ranch in preparation for the lift of the lockout. [DMN]

-- Kegbearer takes an initial look at the defensive line gap assignments under Rob Ryan. [BTB]

Monday:

-- I had a great sit down with free agent defensive end Marcus Spears. We talked about numerous topics; his rehab, the coaching and philosophy changes, the impact his injury had on Jay Ratliff's performance. I even asked him to provide a James Harrison moment. [BTB]

Sunday:

-- Former Cowboys Dexter Coakley and Charles Haley were two of 20 players enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame. Both are former small schools standouts. Coakley played for Appalachian State, and Haley went to James Madison University. [DMN]
