Dallas Cowboys: Quotes From Training Camp

It's been busy times for the Dallas Cowboys over the past few days. This morning, some players and coaches spoke with the press from training camp. A re-cap of what they said.

Jason Garrett on Andre Gurode's injury status (from the Dallas Morning News).

"It's kind of a day-by-day thing. We're hoping he responds well to treatment and gets back here fairly shortly," Garrett said. Asked if he was discouraged that Gurode waited so long in the off-season to have the surgery, Garrett said he wasn't. "We'll get him back," Garrett said. "He'll get himself ready to roll and he'll be back on that practice field before you know it."

Phil Costa replaced him.

More..

New defensive coordinator Rob Ryan is a colorful guy (from SportsDay DFW).

On the defensive meeting:

"It’s great. I had to check twice to see if it was a Pro Bowl meeting or something with so many guys in the Pro Bowl," Ryan said. "It’s something I’m not used to but I’m certainly appreciative of where I am."

Ryan said this is a great opportunity for him. "Hell yeah. There are only a few jobs that you would take and this is the premiere football job and everybody knows it," Ryan said. "It’s God’s team, America’s Team, whatever, so absolutely."

On not using Wade Phillips' terminology or system:

"I looked and I was like, ‘Can’t use that, but that’s fine,’" Ryan said, looking down and flipping a play chart. "Wade’s a fantastic coach and he has a great system, but they are different systems and that’s just the way it is. We’re not going to make any excuses. We’re going to be ready."

Bradie James on the defense (from the Star-Telegram):

"The thing about Rob is you won’t be able to know what defense we’re in," James said. "We had gotten to that point where people were just knowing what was going on. Now, it’s very interesting. It’s very interesting, and we’re just looking forward to getting started. As far as personnel, they [the coaches] don’t know us, and we don’t really know them, because we didn’t have that opportunity [to practice in the offseason]. But you might see a guy like [outside linebacker] Brandon Williams right next to me. You never know, because I know guys talked about player-friendly, but the way Rob does it, he just wants everybody to go out and have fun and get some."

Tony Romo will re-structure his contract if asked (from the DMN):

"Absolutely,'' he said. "Anything the team needs. They know I'm here for that. "Whenever that time comes, if they need it, we'll talk about it.''

Dez on Roy's departure (from the Star-Telegram):

"It's unfortunate," Bryant said. "I hope for the best for him. I learned some great things from Roy. It's my job to fill that spot. I feel like I'm ready. I'm just going to go from there."
