Wow, on the NFL Network, Michael Lombardi is reporting that Nnamdi Asomugha has narrowed his choices down to the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Jets. The Cowboys are in play, it could mean the end for Terence Newman if this deal goes down. It sounds like the Jets are the front-runners, but Jerry and Co. are in the race. Here's Lombardi's twitter from a couple of minutes ago:
Just updated the Nnamdi situation--49ers telling people they are out..Right now, Dallas and Jets, Ryan brothers are battling. Stay tuned.
Both Jets and Cowboys can recruit, as someone once told me about Jerry Jones as a recruiter--"he could talk a cat off a fish truck" true
The NFL network and other sources are speculating that Nnamdi Asomugha’s market did not turn out to be all he had been hoping for, and that that allowed the Cowboys to re-enter the Nnamdi Sweepstakes. Of note, almost all of the local sources have been adamant so far that the Cowboys are not going after Asomugha, and the Cowboys themselves have indicated repeatedly that they are happy with their corners.
[Update, 11:20 a.m. ET: Foxsports' Adam Caplan tweets: "To add fuel to the fire on Asomugha, player source said Dallas, not NYJ, #1 on his list. Problem is Dallas needs to clear up cap space."]
We'll keep watching the TV and Twitter for the latest.
