Dallas Cowboys Sign Robert Callaway To Practice Squad

OK everybody, it's time to put away the lanterns, the watch can come to an end. DMN's Rainer Sabin reports that the Cowboys have filled the eighth and final practice squad slot by inking 23 year old defensive tackle Robert Callaway.

Callaway spent the 2010 season on the practice squad of the Detroit Lions, and was released this past Saturday as that team trimmed down to 53 players.

According to our SBNation brother site Pride of Detroit, Callaway had an outstanding preseason for the Lions in his second go-around with the team, recording a sack and a forced fumble.

If he was on a team with less defensive tackle depth, chances are he would be among the 53 making the roster. Since the Lions have Ndamukong Suh, Corey Williams, Sammie Hill, Nick Fairley and Andre Fluellen ahead of him, there just wasn't room to keep Callaway.

The second year man is a product of Division II's Saginaw Valley State in Michigan. Coming out of school he was listed at 6'5, 325 lbs. POD had the following.

Experts' Opinions: Draft Nasty:

The massive DT out of Division II’s GLIAC conference has been a force for the past two years. Robert Callaway isn’t a guy whose stats are overly impressive (34 tackles, 8.5 tackles for a loss, and four sacks in his career), but he is not afraid to put his hand down in the ground and get a little dirty. He is one of the big guys clogging up the middle of the trenches. He consistently takes up two blockers and is an absolute load to try and move. He is a coach’s dream, as he is eager to learn and willing to make adjustments to improve himself. Callaway has recently received more interest because he impressed scouts during his GLIAC Pro Day as well as his second Pro Day at Michigan State.

Draft Nasty also have an interview with Callaway on their site if you want to get to know the player a little better.
