Breaking News: NT Josh Brent Arrested For Intoxicated Manslaughter

Multiple reports from across the DFW media state that a Dallas Cowboys player was involved in a fatal crash Saturday night in Irving.

Josh Brent has been arrested for intoxicated manslaughter. It is not yet clear who was killed, although Rebecca Lopez from News 8 is reporting via Twitter that the victim of the accident may be on the Dallas Cowboys practice squad.

[Update 2:55 ET]: NBC5 Sports Anchor Matt Barrie is reporting that recently signed LB Jerry Brown Jr. was the victim in the fatal accident.

[Update 3:15 ET]: Newy Scruggs, TV Sports Anchor for NBC quotes an Irving Police report stating that Josh Brent was drunk, speeding & flipped his car, killing teammate Jerry Brown.

[Update 3:30 ET]: The Cowboys players informed of the situation at around 2:30 ET while boarding the team plane to Cincinnati. At the time, all non-team personnel was asked to temporarily exit the Cowboys team plane.Mike Fisher has since reported that the team meeting on the plane was second this morning to inform and aid players and staff.

[Update 3:40 ET]: Below is a statement from Jerry Jones as relayed by the Star-Telegram:

"We are deeply saddened by the news of this accident and the passing of Jerry Brown. At this time, our hearts and prayers and deepest sympathies are with the members of Jerry’s family and all of those who knew him and loved him."

[Update 3:45 ET]: Here's a statement from the Irving PD, as reported by PFT earlier:

“Officers at the scene believed alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash; therefore, Price-Brent was asked to perform field sobriety tests,” a statement from the Irving Police Department said. “Based on the results of the tests, along with the officer’s observations and conversations with Price-Brent, he was arrested for driving while intoxicated. He was transported to an area hospital for a mandatory blood draw. Once it was learned that the passenger of his vehicle had died as a result of the crash, Price-Brent was booked into the Irving City Jail on one count of Intoxication Manslaughter.”

[Update 4:50 ET]: Per Tim MacMahon, Irving police stated that Josh Brent was trying to drag Illinois/Cowboys teammate Jerry Brown from burning car when they arrived at scene.
