Former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman has signed a one-year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
In Cincinnati, Newman is reunited with his former defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, who was the Cowboys' defensive coordinator from 2000-2007. When rumors of the potential move first surfaced, Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said he'd "love to have Newman on our football team".
"As he said his best years of his career was when he was playing for Mike Zimmer. So he is excited about that opportunity to. Hopefully we will get something concluded here fairly quickly."
T-New was drafted by the Cowboys with the fifth overall pick in the 2003 draft and has been a starter every year since, but his time in Dallas came to an end when the Cowboys signed free agent cornerback Brandon Carr.
Newman played in 133 of a possible 144 regular season games over nine years with the Cowboys, but more recently, various injuries had limited his effectiveness. Newman is a two-time Pro Bowler ('07 & '09) and over nine years accumulated 546 tackles, 112 passes defensed and 32 interceptions.
