Rob Phillips form DallasCowboys.com tweeted earlier today that the Cowboys just released punter Jake Rogers.
The Cowboys claimed Rogers off waivers from Tampa Bay three weeks ago. The former former University of Cincinnati Kicker initially signed with the Saints out of college last year before being picked up by the Buccaneers.
The move leaves the Cowboys a little thin at the position, as the Cowboys currently only have one punter on the roster in Chris Jones. But the move also coincides with some recent news about long-time Cowboys punter Mat McBriar, who is a free agent and currently recovering from surgery.
A little over a week ago, Nick Eatman wrote that the Cowboys were keeping close tabs on McBriar's rehab. Apparently, the Cowboys are looking to bring him in for a workout once he's 100% healthy.
That day may be approaching faster than most Cowboys fans may have anticipated. A little while ago, Erin McBriar, Mat McBriar's wife, tweeted that as of today, McBriar is kicking again:
Guess who's kicking for the first time today... Mat McBriar come back tour:)

Coincidence? Perhaps. After all, the release also means that there's now an open roster spot that the Cowboys could be looking to fill in other ways.
