The draft order continues to solidify as as more teams are eliminated from the playoffs, and as a results, the spots below the Cowboys become clearer. Enter the latest mock draft from our appropriately named Mocking The Draft sister site.
Last week, MTD offered the Cowboys USC QB Matt Barkley as the 18th pick in an I'm-going-to-ride-the-Jerry-Jones-is-an-idiot-train-come-hell-or-high-water pick. Well, others have made a career riding that particular meme, why not that draftnik?
This week, MTD's fearless leader Dan Kadar does the honors, doesn't have Barkley in his top 32 and has the Cowboys taking Florida defensive tackle Shariff Floyd:
It's true, the Cowboys desperately need offensive line help. While most fans want needs to be filled, NFL teams often weigh a combination of best player available and need. With Monte Kiffin taking over the defense, the Cowboys may switch to a four-man front. If they do, they'll need help at tackle. Floyd is the kind of lineman who can play outside in power three-man fronts or tackle in a four-man set. He may need to play inside after nose tackle Jay Ratliff played in just six games this season and Josh Brent's playing future looking bleak.
You can't do much wrong if you pick a lineman in a mock draft for the Cowboys, and Shariff Floyd looks like a good choice, seeing that our own Archie Barberio has him ranked as the fourth best DT in the draft.
But is Floyd the best player for the Cowboys left on the board in that particular mock draft? Here's a selection of players picked after the 18th pick:
19. Sam Montgomery, DE, LSU
20. Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma
24. Johnathan Hankins, DT, Ohio State
26. Barrett Jones, C/G, Alabama
29. Kenny Vaccaro, S, Texas
30. Eric Reid, S, LSU
Who would have been your pick?
