NFL Power Rankings (Week 7): Broncos, Saints, Patriots Top The Rankings

The three best teams in the NFL heading into Week 7 are the Broncos, Saints, and Patriots, but the 49ers also move up the rankings in the top 10.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The NFL Power Rankings bring some order to the NFL as teams head into Week 7 of the 2013 season. The Broncos continue unchallenged at the top of the rankings, while the Saints and Patriots take the next two spots.

Nothing changes at the bottom of the table, where the Bucs (30), Giants (31), and Jaguars (32), buckle down for the long haul.

RANK TEAM W/L Power_rankings_logo_medium MOVE (LW)
1 Den_medium 6-0 They are undefeated. They are clearly the best team in the league. The minor cracks in their armor are beginning to show. Jacksonville could have been more in the game on Sunday, had they not lost Cecil Shorts to an early injury. Justin Blackmon embarrassed the Broncos secondary for 190 yards with no real threat opposite him. Will Von Miller's return next week change the only flaw we've found in the guys from the Mile High? (KD) (1)
2 No_medium 5-1 Stop me if you've heard this before. Rob Ryan's defense was good enough to defeat Tom Brady and the Patriots, but bad offensive playcalling with a chance to ice the game led to a three-and-out and Brady getting another shot at being Brady. Except the Saints did it twice. On the third try, Brady came through and showed Sean Payton isn't infallible after all. Still a really, really good team. (KD)

Ne_medium 5-1 One week after coming up short on the final drive, Tom Brady engineered a 70-yard drive with 1:08 and no timeouts left. But while the offense garners all the headlines, it's the defense that's winning the games for the Patriots, holding Drew Brees to a 75.7 passer rating on 17-for-36 passing. Reports are surfacing that tight end Rob Gronkowski's continued absence is creating tension and resentment from his Patriots teammates - that could get interesting. (OCC) Gn-arrow-up_medium (6)
Kc_medium 6-0 The Chiefs spotted the Raiders an early lead, and then harassed Tyrell Pryor on over 55% of his drop backs. The BBQ boys have a D full of monsters that go bump in the night. And the daytime. And brunch on rainy days. (KD) Rd-arrow-down_medium (3)
Sea_medium 5-1 The Seahawks have now won 11 straight games at home, overcoming the strangest botched field goal home in that stadium since... shutup, KD. Their offense still doesn't look right, but the defense is a major obstacle for any offense to overcome. With two winnable road games (albeit division games) before facing TB, ATL and MIN.. Seattle could be 10-1 going into their Week 12 bye. (KD) Rd-arrow-down_medium (4)
6 Ind_medium 4-2 No big comeback from Andrew Luck this time, as the Colts only managed to score three field goals against the Chargers. Coming off a big 34-28 win against the Seahawks, and facing Peyton Manning's Broncos next week, this may have been the proverbial trap game for the Colts. (OCC) Rd-arrow-down_medium (5)
Sf_medium 4-2 Vernon Davis was the go-to-guy for the 49ers, and his eight receptions for 180 yards and two TDs made the 49ers briefly forget that they are extremely thin at wide receiver. They improve to 4-2, and after struggling a little at the start of the season, they are starting to live up to their billing as one of the preseason favorites. (OCC) Gn-arrow-up_medium (8)
Gb_medium 3-2 The Pack have a running game... just in time to see their entire wideout corps decimated by injuries. The severity of Randall Cobb and James Jones' boo-boos will make or break this team. Unless you think this Aaron Rodgers guy is any good and can win games by himself. Oh. (KD) Rd-arrow-down_medium (7)
9 Chi_medium 4-2 The Bears bounce back from a two-game losing streak with a win against the hapless Giants and stay atop the NFCN standings. With Cutler and Marshall clicking, and the defense collecting turnovers like it's 2012, the Bears are in a good place once again. (OCC) (9)
10 Cin_medium 4-2 The Bengals needed overtime to put away the Bills, after the Bills tied the game with 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. Regardless, the Bengals lead the AFC North. (OCC) (10)
11 Dal_medium 3-3 Like it or not, the Cowboys have scored over 30 points in four of their six games so far this season, and are a better team than people think. They are the second-highest scoring offense right after the Broncos, and two of their losses were to the 12-0 Chiefs/Broncos - by a combined 4 points. (OCC) Gn-arrow-up_medium (16)
12 Det_medium 4-2 The Lions were dominated by a suffocating Cleveland defense in the first half, but outscored the Browns 24-0 in the second half, rallying for a 31-17 win. Along the way, they may have discovered a new playmaker in 6-foot-7 rookie tight end Joseph Fauria, who had three receptions, all for TDs. Good news for the Lions after Calvin Johnson was held to three receptions on eight targets. The Lions move to 4-2. (OCC) Rd-arrow-down_medium (11)
13 Bal_medium 3-3 The Ravens couldn't capitalize on the Packers losing two of their starting wide receivers, as their own offense continues to sputter: Flacco did not throw an interception for a change, but the Ravens went 2-of-14 on third downs Sunday, in part because they faced third-and-10+ yards on nine of those plays. (OCC)
Rd-arrow-down_medium (12)
14 Mia_medium 3-2 The Dolphins stormed out to a 3-0 start, but have looked decidedly average since. They had a bye-week to fix their various issues, offensive line play and pass protection chief among them. (OCC) (14)
15 Ten_medium 3-3 There is no shame in losing in Seattle, but two interceptions thrown by Ryan Fitzpatrick ultimately cost the Titans a close game against the Seahawks. The Titans will likely continue to tread water until Jake Locker is back. (OCC) Rd-arrow-down_medium (13)
16 Sd_medium 3-3 The Chargers' up-and-down season continues as they manhandle the Colts, one of the better teams in the league, after themselves being manhandled by the Raiders last week. But at 3-3, and with Rivers having a career year, the Chargers are back in the AFC playoff hunt.(OCC) Gn-arrow-up_medium (20)
17 Cle_medium 3-3 After a pretty decent first half of football that saw the Cleveland Browns jump out to a 17-7 lead over the Detroit Lions, they ultimately lost by a score of 31-17. It was the sixth straight game the Browns held the lead at the intermission, yet they are 3-3. (OCC) Rd-arrow-down_medium (15)
Phi_medium 3-3 It may be a while before we see Vick starting for the Eagles again. Nick Foles went 22-for-31 for 296 yards and three TDs with a 133.3 passer rating. The Eagles win their first consecutive games since the two first games of the 2012 season. The Eagles play the resurgent Cowboys next for the sole NFC East lead. (OCC) Gn-arrow-up_medium (23)
Car_medium 2-3 The Panthers now have two wins, one against the 0-6 Giants, the other against the 1-5 Vikings, outscoring both by a combined 73-10. What does this mean? Probably not much, since outside of those two wins, the Panthers have been outscored 58-36 in three games. (OCC) Gn-arrow-up_medium (22)
20 Ari_medium 3-3 The 49ers wore out the Cardinals defense, and the Cardinals offense didn't get much going, especially with palmer throwing two INTs in the first six minutes. The Seahawks and 49ers will run away with the division, leaving us to wonder what exactly the cardinals are playing for. (OCC) Rd-arrow-down_medium (18)
21 Stl_medium 3-3 The Rams got a big win on the road in Houston to even their record at 3-3 and restore hope for a 2013 season that started with high preseason expectations. They head into Week 7 riding a two-game winning streak (against 0-6 Jacksonville and 2-4 Houston), but will that be enough against the Panthers? (OCC) Gn-arrow-up_medium (25)
Nyj_medium 3-3 What an ugly loss. The 0-4 Steelers utterly dominated the Jets at MetLife Stadium. Sure, the Steelers had two weeks to prepare for this game, but it looked like the Jets simply got outcoached over 60 minutes. The Jets limp into next week's showdown with division rival New England with a 3-3 record and problems in the secondary, at QB and along both lines. (OCC) Rd-arrow-down_medium (19)
Buf_medium 2-4 The Bills expected the Bengals to air it out on Sunday, but the Bengals caught the Bills flat-footed when they opted for a short, dink-and-dunk passing game. More controversy in Buffalo as the Bills just signed QB Matt Flynn. (OCC) Rd-arrow-down_medium (17)
24 Atl_medium 1-4 Injuries have undoubtedly played a role in the Falcons' 1-4 start. Their ground game has been decimated and Julio Jones is on IR; their offensive line is struggling and their defense would make a blindfolded Mark Sanchez look good. That's a lot to fix in one bye week, but they get the Bucs, Cardinals and Panthers in successive weeks, so there's a small chance they could still get out of this thing. (OCC) Gn-arrow-up_medium (27)
25 Oak_medium 2-4 Terrelle Pryor was sacked 10 times and Sebastian Janikowski has missed more field goals (four) so far this year than he did all of last season (three). But the raiders still gave the Chiefs a game: They looked like the better team in the first half, when the game was tied at 7-7, but then lost the plot in the second half. (OCC) Rd-arrow-down_medium (24)
26 Hou_medium 2-4 In addition to all their offensive incompetence, the Texans have now allowed 28 points or more in four of their six games. It stands to reason that if they continue playing like this, they will give the Jaguars their two best chances at winning a game this year. (OCC)
27 Pit_medium 1-4 The Steelers O-Line is so decimated by injuries, they traded for Levi Brown last week. Brown got hurt in warmups on Sunday. Pittsburgh finally recorded their first turnovers of the 2013 season and beat a Jets squad that was nowhere near as good as their 3-2 record. They face off against Baltimore next week as both teams try to keep pace with the Bengals. (KD) Gn-arrow-up_medium (29)
28 Was_medium 1-4 At this point, Dan Snyder should sign Matt Flynn to a contract just to thank him for playing and keeping this team from being 0-5. The talk in Washington is fire the special teams coach now, and start planning on who the 2014 head coach will be. Mike Shanahan has been putrid save for a six-game winning streak to finish last season and will probably not survive the season if it continues like this. At least they'll have a great draft pick. *Looks at RGIII trade* Well, at least the Rams will have a great draft pick. (KD) (28)
29 Min_medium 1-4 Things are not going well in Vikings Land. Their highly touted rookie class has had virtually no impact so far, their defense has the second-worst third-down conversion rate in the league, questions abound at QB and calls for Leslie Frazier to be fired are getting louder. (OCC)
Rd-arrow-down_medium (26)
30 Tb_medium 0-5 Tampa Bay started the season with hopes of competing for their first playoff spot since 2007, but have now dropped 10 of their last 11 games dating back to last season, and are looking worse every week. Greg Schiano's days in Tampa are almost over. (OCC) (30)
31 Nyg_medium 0-6 The Giants are a tire fire inside a dumpster fire under a collapsed building. On a Giants team without any margin for error, Eli Manning has thrown 15 interceptions in the first 6 games, the most since Dan Fouts in 1986. Good news for Giants fans: They get an early start on draft preparation and can also start scouting potential new head coaches beginning now. (OCC) (31)
32 Jac_medium 0-6 They covered the spread against the Broncos, so that's something. The surprisingly feisty Jaguars closed to within 21-19 before the Broncos pulled away with two more TDs. (OCC)
