Jerry Jones spoke to Tony Romo with doctor, QB said he will do everything to play Sunday - Jon Machota, DMN
Jerry Jones, ever the optimist, said Romo could still be cleared to play Sunday.
"Tony was there with his doctor looking over his situation, and we discussed at length what the situation was and what his thoughts were on it and I talked to the doctor two different times yesterday," Jones said. "We went over all the different aspects of it, and what they were doing to treat him to potentially get him in shape to play this weekend."

Will the Romo situation result in ESPN-on-ESPN crime? - ProFootballTalk
PFT sees some impending ESPN-on-ESPN crime, with Adam Schefter reporting unequivocally that Romo won't play on Sunday, while Ed Werder and Todd Archer report that the epidural injection Romo received to relieve pain and reduce inflammation gives the Cowboys some hope that Romo could play.
Dallas Cowboys must weigh risk/reward on Tony Romo - Todd Archer, ESPN Dallas

Here's why the NFL thinks you should vote for Romo:
A look at Tony Romo playing through pain - Todd Archer, ESPN Dallas
Archer details Romo's many injuries over the years, and concludes that "Tony Romo will do everything he can to play Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, despite what sources have told ESPN is a herniated disk in his back."
Jason Garrett of Dallas Cowboys not coaching for his job, Jerry Jones says - Calvin Watkins, ESPN Dallas
Of course, if Jerry Jones says Jason Garrett isn't coaching for his job, then the opposite must be true - or at the very least, it's another boneheaded decision by Jones. See? That's the successful template for a gazillion Jerry Jones articles. In fairness to Watkins though, he keeps his article fairly straightforward.
Cowboys Bring Back Jon Kitna - Blogging The Boys
After working out quarterbacks David Carr, John Skelton, Tyler Thigpen, and Caleb Hanie on Tuesday, the Cowboys decided to re-sign quarterback Jon Kitna to back up Kyle Orton, who in turn could be stepping in for Tony Romo on Sunday.
"Hey kids, I'll be your substitute teacher this week. Mr. Kitna had to go play NFL quarterback." Pretty cool.
— Drew Bledsoe (@DrewBledsoe) December 25, 2013
Cowboys cut Michael Spurlock - National Football Post
To make room for Kitna, Cowboys cut kick returner Michael Spurlock. This probably also means that Dwayne Harris will be back for return duties against the Eagles.

Sometimes, the headline contains all there really is to know on a given subject.
Jerry Jones: Cowboys have enough weapons on offense to win with Orton; more so than suspect defense - Clarence Hill, Star-Telegram
Not that it adds much to the lengthy title, but we'll add a quote from Jerry Jones anyway.
"We got enough offense with Kyle," Jones said. "We got a lot of great players around Tony. Our offensive line has improved by leaps and bounds from the beginning of the year. With the wide receivers we got and the backs we got I think we got a better supporting cast on offense. I'm not minimizing losing Tony. But we got a better supporting cast to win a ball game and to do what we need to do to win than what we have on defense. There is a little more margin there for us to make due. That will serve us well."
Scout's Eye: Taking Closer Look Veteran QB Kyle Orton - Bryan Broaddus, DallasCowboys.com
Broaddus summarizes what we already know about Orton: Not as mobile as Romo, willing to take chances on tight throws, smart, and throws a catchable ball. Also: God Emperor Of The Screen And Checkdown Passes.
Kyle Orton To Start For Cowboys - Hammer and Rails
Purdue, the self-titled "Cradle of Quarterbacks" will pad its stats on Sunday when Kyle Orton makes his first start in two years, helping Purdue lengthen its lead for "Most NFL QB starts by a school". But there's more from the Boilermakers:
A Cowboys win could also lead to Boiler vs. Boiler crime in round one. If Dallas, Chicago, New Orleans, and Carolina all win on Sunday the Saints [Drew Brees is also a Boilermaker] will visit the Cowboys in the wild card round of the NFC playoffs.
George Selvie gets Pro Football Focus gameball for the Cowboys vs Redskins game - Pro Football Focus
According to PFF, George Selvie who was their most consistent player throughout the game.
He didn’t quite match the five defensive stops he registered last week, but he was a consistently disruptive force against the Redskins’ ground game both in terms of taking down runners and disrupting them to give others the opportunity to make plays around him.
After an inconsistent mid-season run Selvie has returned to that pre- and early-season form with a pair of strong games in the last two weeks. With the Eagles’ ground game running into town next Sunday night, the Cowboys will need Selvie to keep his form going for at least another week.
What the Cowboys should do in 2014 draft - Rick Gosselin, DMN
Gosselin suggest the Cowboys should focus on the lines in next year's draft:
1--Pass rusher
2--Pass rusher
3--DT
4--OT/G
5--DT
6--QB
7--OT/GBuild the lines. That's always been a key to success in this division. That's how the Cowboys built their dynasty in the 1990s -- they had the best offensive line and the deepest defensive line in football. If you can control the line of scrimmage, you can control any opponent you face.
In spite of the less than stellar news Cowboys fans received this week, the staff at BTB want to wish you and your families all the best as you celebrate Christmas. We wish all of you a happy, and safe, holiday week and send an abundance of happiness and good cheer your way.
Merry Christmas everybody!
