SB Nation has a new mock draft out, and this time they are throwing Cowboys fans a curve ball: Despite North Carolina guard and Cowboys fan favorite Jonathan Cooper still being available, MTD's Dan Kadar has the Dallas Cowboys picking safety Kenny Vaccaro.
Team | Player | Position | Height | Weight | Class |
18. Dallas Cowboys |
Kenny Vaccaro, Texas |
S | 6'0 |
214 | Jr. |
The Cowboys have apparently shown a lot of interest in Kenny Vaccaro in the pre-draft process. Jerry Jones isn’t exactly the best at hiding his hand, so it’s not tough to believe that they are targeting. Vaccaro has some question marks, but he’s a versatile weapon for a secondary that could use another piece. |
Vaccaro has emerged as a popular pick for the Cowboys, ever since word leaked that the Cowboys were going to work him out and the Cowboys released Gerald Sensabaugh in parallel. Perhaps that sentiment will change once word gets around that the Cowboys have invited free agent safeties Michael Huff and Will Allen, and could end up signing one or both of them - and LSU's Eric Reid is also scheduled for a visit.
With that information, is Kenny Vaccaro still the best player available for the Cowboys or is this a pick made against a perceived need? In that context, the SBNation mock provides some interesting alternatives in that it has a couple of recognizable names still on the board when the Cowboys make their pick. Here's a selection of players picked after the 18th pick:
19 (Giants): Ezekiel Ansah, DE, BYU
20 (Bears): Jonathan Cooper, OG, North Carolina
21 (Bengals): Jonathan Cyprien, S, Florida International
26 (Packers): Bjoern Werner, DE, Florida State
28 (Broncos): Cornellius Carradine, DE, Florida State
Given those options, who would have been your pick?
