No Joke: April Fools Day Mock Drafts!

It may be a day for fun and jokes, but not so for our mock drafters who go about their business in their usual serious manner and bring us the latest, greatest mock drafts.

US PRESSWIRE

It's Monday, and that means Dan Kadar at our sister site Mocking The Draft has knocked out another mock draft for our reading pleasure. But instead of focusing entirely on that one mock draft, we'll look at a handful of mock drafts published today, which includes a name you haven't heard or seen mocked the Cowboys' way in the first round before as well as a defense of Romo's new contract from an unlikely source.

Site Player Date
Mocking The Draft (Dan Kadar) Sheldon Richardson, DE Missouri April 1
A defensive lineman of Richardson's caliber would be difficult to pass up – particularly with Vaccaro off the board. The other option could be a guard like Jonathan Cooper or right tackle like D.J. Fluker, but Richardson grades out as the better player. He would also speed up the team's transition to Monte Kiffin's 4-3 defense.
Optimum Scouting (Eric Galko)
Chance Warmack, OG, Alabam April 1
While the Cowboys have been linked to defensive tackles and safeties, they may not have value available. If that’s the case, the Cowboys will be “forced” to address their offensive line to protect their new highly-paid quarterback Tony Romo.
Pigskin Report (Mike Kerns)
Kenny Vaccaro, S, Texas April 1
For all of the griping about Tony Romo and his big contract extension, he played very well last season. Imagine what he can do with a defense that can actually get off the field. The Cowboys secondary is solidified with the addition of the best safety in the draft.
CBSSports (Dane Brugler)
Kenny Vaccaro, S, Texas April 1
Drafting a lineman, either offensive or defensive, with this pick makes the most sense, but with the top prospects off the board, Texas' Vaccaro is very much a possibility for Dallas who needs to make upgrades at safety.
NFL.com (Akbar Gbajabiamila)
Menelik Watson, T, Florida State April 1
Jerry Jones made a clear statement that the Cowboys believe in Tony Romo with a mega-bucks extension, so the next logical move is to protect their investment. Watson, a former basketball player, has great footwork to dance with pass rushers.
CBSSports (Rob Rang)
Sylvester Williams, DT, North Carolina April 1
After a long run with the 3-4 defense the Cowboys are making the switch to the 4-3 alignment with new coordinator Monte Kiffin. For Kiffin's famous Tampa-2 scheme to work the team will need to add a penetrating three-technique defensive tackle. Williams left scouts buzzing with his athleticism at the North Carolina Pro Day and would be a perfect schematic fit.
