Dallas Cowboys Roster: Our Post-Mini Camp Projections

Now that the Cowboys have practiced together for a month. Tom Ryle & I take our shots at what their Roster will look like on opening night against the Giants.

Rob Carr

The Cowboys wrapped up their Off-Season activities this week completing their three-day Mini-Camp. So Tom and I thought it would be a great time to take another run at our 53 man Roster Projections, this time with the addition of an eight-man Practice Squad.

Check it out:

Tom Ryle Joey Ickes
2 Quarterbacks 2
Romo Definitely see the team rolling with two again this year. Stash Nick Stephens on the PS as a disaster option. Romo Only reason to carry three QBs when you have tw vets is if there's a developmental guy, he's not here yet so they go with two.
Orton Orton
4 Running Backs 4
Murray I do not expect to see a fullback this year, so no more Lawrence Vickers. Go with four. Murray Randle provides a "Murray 2.0" in case the starter goes down. Dunbar & Tanner are both receiving rave reviews for the work they did in the off-season.
Randle Randle
Dunbar Dunbar
Tanner Tanner
6 Wide Receivers 5
Bryant I went back and forth here a lot between five and six, but there is too much need for depth, I think. Danny Coale is my 53rd man this year. Bryant I think Danny Coale might be on the PUP list to give them some mid-season flexibility with the injury history at the position. Each of these five guys will have roles in the offense.
Austin Austin
Williams Williams
Harris Harris
Beasley Beasley
Coale
4 Tight Ends 4
Witten Four here make up for the loss of the FB, obviously. Witten The addition of Rosario really rounded out this group. They will create tough matchups all over the field every week.
Hanna Escobar
Escobar Hanna
Rosario Rosario
3 Offensive Tackles 3
Smith I do think Free holds onto his starting job with Parnell as the swing backup. Smith With Parnell missing time I have an inkling that Free might be your starter again Week 1.
Free Free
Parnell Parnell
6 Guards/Centers 6
Frederick Now it gets really, really interesting. I think Leary emerges enough to make Livings expendable. He joins Frederick and Bernadeau as the starters. Frederick My hope is that Leary bumps Livings as the starter, and they go young in this group.
Bernadeau Bernadeau
Leary Leary
Costa Costa
Arkin Kowalski
Kowalski Arkin
9 Defensive Linemen 9
Ware DT: Ben Bass emergence, and the fact he went as a DE at times, gives the team a dual use guy. Nick Hayden is one of my shakier picks, but there were some good reviews on him at one time.

DE: My understanding is that Wilber and Crawford were the primary backups when Ware and Spencer were out – and looked pretty good at it.
Ware DT: Hatcher and Ratliff are your starters inside, and Lissemore, Bass, and Hayden provide quality depth.

DE: Ware and Spencer will be GREAT in this defense, and Wilber and Crawford are drawing quality reviews for their work over the last month.

Maybe Kiffin & Marinelli weren't so crazy for feeling good about this group after all?
Spencer Spencer
Wilber Wilber
Crawford Crawford
Hatcher Hatcher
Ratliff Ratliff
Lissemore Lissemore
Bass Bass
Hayden Hayden
7 Linebackers 7
Lee The big surprise was that I saw a remark that McSurdy was getting most of the work with the twos at the Mike. Add in his work as a possible fullback option, and this kid may stun everyone by making the team. Albright is still the Swiss Army knife of the defense & Durant has been staking out the starting job at SAM. Lee This is, as I've said, the Year of the Linebacker. Lee and Carter will make tons and tons of tackles. Magee, Holloman, McSurdy and Albright will be core special teamers.
Carter Carter
Durant Durant
Magee Magee
Holloman Holloman
Albright Albright
McSurdy McSurdy
5 Cornerbacks 5
Carr Moore backs up Carr/Claiborne, Webb is the backup nickel. Carr I think Webb is pushing Scandrick for snaps in the nickel by mid-year, and Moore can flex to safety if they need him.
Claiborne Claiborne
Moore Moore
Webb Webb
Scandrick Scandrick

4 Safeties 5
Church Allen starts to open the season, but Johnson could move ahead of him midseason. Danny McCray is finally made expendable by all the other backups who are more capable at their position. Church These coaches love Will Allen as a player, and Steelers fans say good things about him, but the two young guys will come on strong as the season moves along. McCray ends up being my 53rd guy.
Johnson Johnson
Wilcox Wilcox
Allen Allen

McCray
3 Specialists 3
Bailey Don't mess with success. Bailey Yeah, what he said.
Jones Jones
LaDouceur

8 Practice Squad 8
Stephens One problem here is that this looks very raidable – but some very solid backups are available on the 90 man roster for stashing here. Stephens Lots of potential in this group. Kendial Lawrence, Tank Reed, and Jakar Hamilton are guys with big time upside that we have to hope make it through waivers.
Green Green
K. Lawrence K. Lawrence
Weems Weems
Hamilton Hamilton
Reed Reed
C. Lawrence C. Lawrence
Sheffield Amos
