General News & Notes
Plaintiff attorney in NFL concussion suit calls Jerry Jones a "hard-ass" - Dallas Cowboys Blog
One of the attorneys in this case referenced Jerry Jones as he talked about the negotiations with the NFL:
"I think you all can assume that the NFL and the NFL owners are pretty tough individuals," he said. "In fact, you’ve got one down in Texas who I would call a hard-ass. I think that’s a fair characterization.
Seeger was asked to clarify the Texas owner to which he was referring "Oh, oh, oh, sorry," Seeger said. "I don’t even know who the owner in Houston is, frankly. I hope I didn’t offend him. I’m talking about the one in Dallas."

Jason Garrett: Alex Tanney had no chance because of protection - Clarence Hill, Star-Telegram
Did Tanney show enough to make the roster on Saturday? Garrett said it was hard to assess Tanney’s performance because of the bad pass protection.
"It was hard for us to block them on offense," Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. "It was hard Alex to get in any kind of rhythm throwing the football. It seemed like they were getting pressure for most of the night. You have to assess how he responds to that. It looked like he kept his composure. He just didn't get in much of a rhythm."
Jason Garrett says loss to the Texans exposes the Cowboys lack of depth - Clarence Hill, Star-Telegram
Garrett tells it like it is:
"Again a lot of young guys were playing for us and for them. You try to evaluate individuals as much as you evaluate the whole group. I thought our run defense has been pretty good during the preseason with some of our veteran players. Obviously their group played better than our group. In some ways it does reflect on the depth of our football team right now."

Monte Kiffin doesn't sound completely sure Anthony Spencer will be back for Giants - Carlos Mendez, Star-Telegram
Asked about Nick Hayden’s value on the defensive line, Kiffin reflected on both Hayden and Spencer:
"[Hayden]’s certainly going to be a big key because at our left end position, even if Anthony’s ready, I’m sure he’s not ready to play 60-something plays, that’s for darn sure. Just hope we get him back for some."
Ron Leary runs before the final preseason game - Carlos Mendez, Star-Telegram
Leary ran with some of the starters before the game, a sign that he could be close to returning for the season opener. Leary, who had his knee scoped on August 16, said he wasn't surprised to be running so soon after his surgery:
"It wasn’t that serious," he said. "It was a minor procedure. I walked out of surgery. It was no problem at all. I’m feeling better every day."
