Cowboys Mike Woicik Likely Staying; Shakeup In Draft Preparation

Two minor stories for your Friday afternoon.

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sport

There was a lot of excitement when the Dallas Cowboys hired strength and conditioning coach Mike Woicik. After all, he had six Super Bowl rings and had helped the Cowboys of the 90s and the Patriots of the 00s become dominant dynasties. Surely the Cowboys would become a stronger team, a healthier team, better suited to closing out games and seasons. That really hasn't happened yet, and the seemingly inordinate amount of hamstring injuries has driven the Cowboys' faithful to madness. So parts of the fanbase and media had started to question Woicik's value to the team. TThe Cowboys organization appears to have no such issues.

According to a source, Woicik's return is probably certain for a 25th NFL season barring a sudden change.

"We look at all those things [about hamstrings], all the time," Woicik told ESPNDallas back in December. "Trainers, strength coaches always look at that. We're always looking for new ways that we can try to prevent it, but we don’t have all the answers."

It's more than likely that the Cowboys have just been having a run of bad luck than anything Woicik and his staff are doing. Anyway, as Rick Gosselin points out in this article, lots of games lost to injury didn't stop other teams from making the playoffs.

The Cowboys are also making a change to their draft preparations.

For the first time since 2008, somebody else will put together the Dallas Cowboys' NFL draft board. Will McClay, the assistant director of player personnel, will handle those duties this spring. Tom Ciskowski, the director of scouting, had produced the board the past few years but things moved into a different direction starting last year.

McClay and Ciskowski split between handling pro and college duties. Ciskowski had been in charge of pro and college scouting, but the Cowboys wanted him to concentrate more on the college game. Ciskowski is still a valued member of the front office and last year interviewed for the then-vacant general manager position in Indianapolis that eventually went to Ryan Grigson.

McClay has been ascending up the Cowboys organizational structure.
