Engel notes that the Cowboys have drafted only five QBs under Jerry Jones, and that while drafting Troy Aikman likely spoiled Jones, drafting Quincy Carter may have scared him off drafting QBs altogether. Yet Engel offers up an intriguing scenario for the Cowboys:
Jerry just does not want any part of the process of developing a young quarterback. What he may not want to acknowledge is that, since he bought the team, the learning curve for QBs is much different today than it was in 1989. The rules are more QB-friendly. Phil Simms noted last year that between coaching, rule changes, short passes and quick reads, the game is much easier now for quarterbacks of this generation.
There is no reason not to take advantage of that, and possibly draft LSU’s Zach Mettenberger or Georgia’s Aaron Murray. Both suffered torn ACLs late in the 2013 season, which will do nothing but hurt their draft stock. Both played multiple seasons of major college ball. Both have pro qualities. There is something there. Neither would need to play immediately.

Jason Garrett said earlier this year that DeMarcus Ware needs to practice more to be effective on gameday, and Ware agrees.
"I feel when I practice more or just practice in general I do play better," Ware said. "When you’re out there, you do your reps, you’ve seen it, but there’s nothing like simulating going against full speed."

Keith O'Quinn, previously the offensive quality control as well assistant wide receivers coach moves into the assistant special teams position vacated by Chris Boniol. Kyle Valero, who worked with Scott Linehan for four seasons in Detroit, joins the Cowboys as an offensive assistant. Turner West (26) also joins as an assistant coach. He spent last season as a graduate assistant coach at Middle Tennessee.
