Tired of seeing defensive tackles or safeties at the top of any Cowboys mock draft? Then SB Nation has the mock for you. Echoing a move made by our own Joey Ickes in his seven-round mock, the Cowboys decide to go linebacker in the latest from SB Nation. C.J. Mosley from Alabama is the pick.
16. Dallas Cowboys - CJ Mosley, Inside linebacker, Alabama. While the Cowboys are often associated with safeties or defensive linemen in mock drafts, don’t overlook linebacker. Bruce Carter hasn’t had the career many expected and was even benched last season. Sean Lee has played in just 17 games the past two seasons. Mosley is capable of playing either position and starring at both.
With Aaron Donald off the board (14 to the Bears), the Cowboys change course to linebacker.
After the first round, it's all about the defensive line.
47. Dallas Cowboys - Jackson Jeffcoat, Defensive End, Texas. The Cowboys’ pass defense was deplorable in 2013. Not only does Dallas need to add some talent to its secondary in the offseason, but finding a way to put more pressure on the quarterback should be a priority as well. Jackson Jeffcoat disappointed a bit this season, but he has some physical tools to be effective in certain pass-rushing situations.
78. Dallas Cowboys - Da’Quan Jones, Defensive tackle, Penn State. Dallas would be fortunate to get a defensive lineman of Jones’ caliber in the third round. He’s a sneaky good athlete and has the power to be an asset against the run.
Jeffcoat has been talked about a lot on this site and is a natural fit both because of need, and because his father was Jim Jeffcoat. Jones was picked by OCC and rabblerousr in the BTB seven-round mocks, but they had him in the second. If he fell to the third and Dallas could get him, that would be real value.
So, could you accept a linebacker like Mosley in the first round?
