Jared Allen Will Leave Dallas Without Signing A Contract

The Cowboys have now hosted their two main free agent targets along the defensive line.

Henry Melton left the Cowboys facilities at Valley Ranch to go visit the St. Louis Rams. Now, Jared Allen will also leave without signing anything, supposedly to head home and discuss his future with his wife.

There is no expectation that the 31-year-old defensive end will make a decision on his future today. He wants to discuss his options with his wife first. By all accounts, his Cowboysvisit went well, according to Rapoport.

Allen's current options are to join the Cowboys or Seattle Seahawks -- whom he visited last week -- make additional visits or take his ball and walk away.

The 11-year veteran has heard from five teams but has made just the two visits. He currently has no additional visits lined up.

Allen has made no secret of his desire for what he would see as a fair-market value deal, which at this point would probably be pretty rich. No numbers have been discussed publicly so it's hard to know exactly what he thinks that number is, we'll just have to wait and see the outcome.

The Cowboys apparently are trying to remain disciplined in their approach to free agency instead of throwing cash around like in days passed. Of course, Dallas used to get hammered for spending money and signing bad contracts. Now they get hammered for not spending money and being fiscally restrained.

Dallas tried to go as far as they could with the core they had, but being stuck with mediocre records and pressed against the salary cap wasn't exactly getting them anywhere.
