Garrett says it's not easy to be coached by Rod Marinelli, but players buy in to how he coaches them - Carlos Mendez, Star-Telegram
Garrett said Rod Marinelli's ability to build relationships with his players is at the core of Marinelli's coaching:

"It’s a hard day’s work. In a really good way," Garrett said at the owners meetings in Orlando. "But I think when you’re asking guys to do a lot, and demanding that guys do a lot, developing that relationship with them is an important piece to that. They understand that what you’re asking them to do is in their best interest and ultimately in the team’s best interest."

Dallas Cowboys DC Rod Marinelli a difference maker - Todd Archer, ESPN Dallas
In Rod Marinelli, the Dallas Cowboys believe they have one of the best assistant coaches in the NFL, Todd Archer writes.

He might talk softly, but Marinelli has a way of forging relationships with defensive linemen. He did it with Warren Sapp and Simeon Rice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He did it with Melton and Julius Peppers with the Bears. He did it with Jason Hatcher and DeMarcus Ware with the Cowboys.

Marinelli’s ability to connect with his linemen and get the best out of them hasn’t gone unnoticed. Every defensive lineman who worked with Marinelli last year raved about the coach’s talents, as owner/general manager Jerry Jones recognized.

"I wouldn’t want to dismiss the contribution he made last year," Jones said at the NFL Owners Meetings. "He’s not only very accomplished as a coordinator, but he’s certainly recognized by players as well as his peers as being one of the top interior line coaches there are."

Dallas Cowboys' Jerry Jones speaks for Bill Callahan - Calvin Watkins, ESPN Dallas
Jerry Jones defends the team's decision to take play-calling duties away from Bill Callahan:

"He's professional and a good one, an outstanding one," Jones said. "Bill would be the first one to tell you, and I'll tell you for him: He just wants good, nice bright lines as to what our responsibilities are and what we need to be doing. That's easier to say than to do. Not only in coaching, but many things. All he wanted to do, let's try to brighten the lines up. Let's get clearer as to some of our duties."

Can DE Jeremy Mincey keep his focus with the Cowboys? | David Moore, DMN
Mincey's former Jaguars coach, Gus Bradley, is very complimentary about the Cowboys' new defensive end.

"He is really strong,’’ Jacksonville’s Gus Bradley said. "He is good at the point of attack. I think he has some inside rush. For us he got some pressure on the quarterback."

"I know I have had extended conversations with him and you do gravitate towards him. He is open-minded to listening and hearing things. And with a guy like Rod Marinelli there he will continue to improve."

When prompted for why the Jaguars cut Mincey, Bradley added that Mincey "had maybe too many distractions." Turns out, Mincey was late for several meetings, in part, as Moore writes, because Mincey had a recording studio in Jacksonville that proved a distraction.

Scheduled Visits: At least four SMU players have received invitations to attend Dallas Day on April 17th: QB Garrett Gilbert, WR Jeremy Johnson, WR Keenan Holman and CB Chris Parks have all announced they'll be working out for the Cowboys.

SMU and TCU are the two local colleges in the DFW area from which the Cowboys are allowed to invite as many prospects as they want, and none of those invitees will count against the Cowboys' quota of 30 national prospects they are allowed to bring in.
