As we had expected, the Cowboys made a trade for a defensive end. Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas was the first to report the trade:

Edwards played college football for LSU and was drafted in the fifth round of the 2013 draft by the Tennessee Titans. Edwards played on 153 defensive snaps in seven games for the Titans last year.

In other news, the cuts keep trickling in as we near the 4:00 pm ET, the deadline for teams to reduce their rosters to 53 players.

The latest player names to surface are WR Dezmon Briscoe and TE Asa Watson.

The Cowboys signed Briscoe one day before the start of training camp in July.

Briscoe played high school football at Cedar Hill before playing in college at Kansas, where he finished as the school’s all-time leader in receiving yards with 3,240 and 31 touchdowns on 208 receptions.

He was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the sixth round of the 2010 NFL Draft, but he didn’t survive final cuts. He moved on to Tampay Bay and eventually to Washington, where he spent year on injured reserve list.

Asa Watson was brought on as a replacement for TE Dallas Walker. The 24-year-old Watson was waived by New England three days after the Patriots' preseason opener this year and was a longshot to make the roster.

Nwaneri was seen as a possiblity to make the roster, but a disappinting outing in the preseason finale may have cost him his spot.

Also, LaRon Byrd and Ryan Williams, whom many fans wanted to see make the roster, have also been released:
