The Dallas Cowboys enter a game for the first time this season after losing the previous week. Will there be a hangover from the game against the Falcons? Are injuries to their star players, plus a few suspensions, too much to overcome? That's what we'll find out on Sunday night when they travel to New Orleans to take on the Saints.
Originally, there was speculation that this game might be a battle of backup quarterbacks, but it doesn't appear that it will work out that way. While Dallas will be without Tony Romo, the Saints will likely have Drew Brees back under center. Just how healthy he is will be something to watch for as the game progresses. Can he make all the throws with zip with his inflamed shoulder? Dallas will work hard to make Brees uncomfortable in the pocket and knock him around. The secondary will be on alert for any weak throws ripe for the picking.
The Cowboys will counter with Brandon Weeden for a second straight week. Last week, Weeden was efficient but never challenged the Falcons deep. This week, the Cowboys will likely open up the offense a bit more and challenge a Saints defense that has had a rough go of it early in the season. They should have Ron Leary back who is a punishing run-blocker, so Joseph Randle and company might be in for a heavy load.
On defense is where the Cowboys really need to tighten up. Last week they proved vulnerable to the run and the pass, giving up a whopping 39 points and providing little resistance in the second half. With Brees playing, they will need to be sound and make a few splash plays, something they couldn't muster last week.
