Never thought I'd say something like this, but after seven straight days of free agency, it actually feels like a little bit of a relief to get back to mock drafts. That feeling probably won't last very long, especially if the Cowboys end up signing Greg Hardy, and you kiss all your carefully constructed mock draft scenarios goodbye that had you lucking into a premier pass rusher. Or do you?

Update: Read our 2015 NFL Draft rankings by position.

In our inaugural mock draft database of the season, we take a peek at 40 different mock drafts by some of the better-known draftniks on the interwebs to get a better feeling for the lay of the land at the end of the first round.

As it currently stands, 22 of the 40 mocks are projecting the Cowboys to take a defensive lineman. That could change very quickly if the Cowboys sign Greg Hardy (possibly as early as today), as the Cowboys could suddenly find themselves with quite a bit of flexibility heading into the 2015 NFL Draft.

Here's Jason Garrett from a few years ago explaining how the Cowboys' free agency activities at the time were an attempt to fill holes in order to gain more flexibility in the draft.

"That was one of our objectives. You want to address the needs where you can in free agency," Garrett said. "We tried to address some needs with players that we really liked in free agency and hopefully that will allow us to be a little bit less need-based in the draft and take the best players, guys who can help our football team."

If the Cowboys manage to address their biggest needs via free agency, they'd be set up nicely to pick the best players on their board, irrespective of position. If you were locked in on a running back, a defensive lineman, or a linebacker, you may have to start rethinking that position.

Until then, this is what the mock draft community has the Cowboys doing in the draft: The table below lists the 40 mocks by their publication date, shows which player is mocked to the Cowboys, and also shows where the two RBs, DEs, and DTs most likely to be a fit in Dallas are slotted in each mock. For your convenience, the table is sortable (just click on the blue column headers).
