Cowboys Orlando Scandrick Carted Off Field With Injury - Blogging The Boys
Say it aint so, O!! It looks like the Cowboys depth at the corner position will be tested sooner versus later.
DBs coach Jerome Henderson on Scandrick: He said immediately, "It’s my ACL. I know it. It’s gone.' ...I hope he’s just really dramatic."

Cowboys DBs finally take it away but injury mars practice - ESPN
Before the Scandrick injury, there were a lot of good things going on in practice.
Broaddus: Grading Weems' Tape & Other Top Thoughts From 49ers Game | Dallas Cowboys
Bryan Broaddus offers up his thoughts after taking a look at the tape, including how the Cowboys dodged a bullet.
I didn't notice it at first from the broadcast booth, but the first sack of the day for the Cowboys by Randy Gregory most likely saved a touchdown pass to tight end Vernon Davis. There was no doubt that on the play, Colin Kaepernick wanted to hit Davis down the middle of the field while working against Andrew Gachkar. Davis was in the clear and had Gachkar beat but inside pressure from Davon Coleman and Ken Bishop along with Gregory never allowed the play to develop.
Hmm, a Vernon Davis TD. How familiar. It feels so much better when it doesn't happen.
Two games, two sacks for Dallas Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory - ESPN
People are quick to point out that Gregory is stealing all the thunder from another pass rusher's big play, but they better get used to it because it could be a common occurrence in Dallas this season.
Gregory's sack came in part because of the work done by defensive tackles Ken Bishop and Davon Coleman to flush Kaepernick Gregory's way. His sack against the Chargers was helped by Coleman chewing up a San Diego lineman. "A sack is a sack," Gregory said, "but I'm happy. I think we've got a group of guys that that's what's going to happen. The guys are going to set you up for success and you're going to give it to them in turn. I'm not going to complain about it."
Jerry Jones: Randy Gregory playing at ‘level beyond what I expected’ | Dallas Morning News
Jerry Jones also loves Gregory.
"That Randy Gregory, as a rookie I know you shouldn’t do this, but I’m excited about him. He excites the huddle when he gets in it. He excites the team meeting room. He gets his coaches excited."
Bob Sturm: Cowboys QB Tony Romo a modern miracle that might not be duplicated | Dallas Morning News
Everyone knows that the Cowboys got lucky when they pulled a Romo out of their hat, but just how often does this type of magic happen?
Here is a chart (sorted by TD passes) that demonstrates the above declaration that Tony Romo was, in fact, a miracle.
Gosselin: 4th-string QB Jameill Showers could have unique ticket to Cowboys roster | Dallas Morning News
A couple Super Bowl winning quarterbacks have had some dirty jobs prior to moving behind center, so could there be hope for Jameill?
Theismann returned punts before he ever threw a pass in the NFL and Hostetler blocked a punt before he threw his first NFL pass. When you are a young quarterback, buried on the depth chart, you do whatever you can to get on the field and prove both your value as a player and worth to your team.
Cowboys’ Brandon Weeden: More preseason work isn’t worth losing memory to concussions | Dallas Morning News
And from undrafted QBs to one that was drafted in the first round. Weeden weighs out the risks of getting knocked around in a preseason game.
"You want to be smart about it," Weeden said. "I’m 31 years old and I don’t want to be 50 and not be able to know my kids’ names. To me, that’s a lot more important than try to play it out one more series in a preseason game. It’s not worth it. Super Bowl? That would be a little different deal."
Could Jasper Brinkley be a surprise cut by Dallas Cowboys? - ESPN
If he keeps performing the way he has been, it's not going to be much of a surprise.
I wonder if Jasper Brinkley is on the roster bubble. The Cowboys guaranteed him $2 million on a two-year deal he signed in the offseason. He received a $1.25 million bonus and $750,000 of his $1 million base salary is guaranteed. If the Cowboys cut Brinkley, he would cost them $375,000 in cap space this year and $625,000 in cap space next year. In the grand scheme of things, that's not a ton of room but if he doesn't make it they would be swallowing a free-agent mistake.
Cowboys camp recap/look ahead: Dull performance against 49ers should heighten sense of urgency | Dallas Morning News
Things should start to look a little different come Saturday.
There were 25 players not taking part in practice one week ago. A large number of those players will begin to roll back into practice as the team gears up for Saturday’s game against the Vikings and the regular season opener, which is less than three weeks away.
It's early but Dallas Cowboys run defense looks shaky - ESPN
The Cowboys have some issues, but they can be identified and corrected.
With our defense, it’s a one-gap defense," Church said. "If you’re not in your gap, the ball is going to split up in your gap and it’s going to expose you. That’s the good thing about this defense. We’ll know from watching film immediately who did what and why the running game was effective against us. We’ve definitely got to fix what we’ve got to fix and come out against Minnesota and have a better performance."
For Jason Garrett, Bruce Springsteen an inspiration - ESPN
If you ask Jason Garrett "Who's the Boss?" the answer might not be Jerry Jones.
"We talk to our team all about it all the time: I'm inspired by excellence, inspired by excellence in all walks of life," Garrett said. "A great writer, a great song, certainly a great artist, great athletes in all walks of life, great speakers, poetry, a great book, whatever those things are that are excellent it's hard not to be inspired by them.
Garrett's favorite Springsteen song is "Born to Run" so think about that next time you question his commitment to the running game.
