2016 Cowboys Free Agency Live Blog - Day 3
6:50 PM EST: It is being reported (again) that Chris Long is coming to Dallas for a visit. And one report stated it was at his or his agent's request. He is high-mileage, but could be a spot pass rusher that the Cowboys could use. With the shrinking pool of available DEs, he might be the best available short-term fix there.
6:45 PM EST: Matt Moore left to visit the Colts, but they may no longer be in play for him. Could still be in play for Dallas.
#Colts signed QB Scott Tolzien.

5:55 PM EST: The Cowboys are putting the band back together. James Hanna is the sixth of their own free agents they've brought back.
#Cowboys and TE James Hanna agreed to terms on a 3-year, $8.25m deal, per source.

5:46 PM EST: Free agent Chris Long has informed the Cowboys that he wants to visit and is expected to do so next week, a source told Davis Moore of the DMN.
5:35 PM EST: This is just for its comedic value: Poll finds most Ohioans think Ohio State would beat the Browns
5:05 PM EST: Showing tonight, "The Incredible Shrinking QB Pool."
Matt Moore leaving the Cowboys without a deal. Saw that he is visiting the Colts now.

4:40 PM EST: The Cowboys continue signing their own and re-up Morris Claiborne for a year.
Jaguars are signing former Cowboys OL Mackenzy Bernadeau. Two-year deal worth up to $4m. Depth on the inside of the line.
— Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) March 11, 2016
3:39 PM EST: Mackenzy Bernadeau is leaving Dallas. For those keeping count, he qualifies as a compensatory free agent lost.

3:02 PM EST:
From what I've heard, doesn't look like there will be any other deals from Cowboys today, so put Nolan Carroll, Matt Moore on hold for now.
— Todd Archer (@toddarcher) March 11, 2016
1:58 PM EST: The Cowboys are on a roll.
The Cowboys have also re-signed offensive tackle Charles Brown. Primary backup to Tyron Smith, Doug Free last year.

1:49 PM EST: It's official: Four Ccmpensatory picks give Cowboys nine total picks in 2016 NFL Draft.
1:25 PM EST Linebacker Kyle Wilber has re-signed with the Dallas Cowboys.
11:31 AM EST:
Cowboys free agency udpate: In addition to James Hanna visiting San Diego, Mackenzy Bernadeau visiting Jacksonville.
— Todd Archer (@toddarcher) March 11, 2016
10:55 AM EST: I hat quoting Joe Banner twice in one post, but this immediately sprang to mind when I heard Hanna was off visiting the Chargers.
Let's be clear about analytics.I know of no study that says lose quality young starter to get a comp pick in 18 months at the end of 5th rd.

10:48 AM EST:
Confirming @sdutGehlken report that TE James Hanna is visiting @Chargers. Would be nice complement to Antonio Gates @NFLonFOX

10:15 AM EST: If you're bored with free agency, there's always the draft. And for the draft, we have this little nugget: All 32 teams are present at the Ohio State pro day, including six head coaches but not Jason Garrett. Lots of potential Cowboys targets working out there, including Joey Bosa, Ezekiel Elliott, Eli Apple, and Braxton Miller.
10:12 AM EST: Ever wonder what really happens to those top free agents every year? Katherine Terrelle of nola.com analyzes five years of 'top' FA signings. Not a pretty sight.
10:05 AM EST: Cowboys are the No. 1 rebound candidate in 2016. SportsOnEarth ranks the likeliest rebound candidates for next season, and the Cowboys top their list. Here's part of the reason why:
With presumably healthy seasons from Tony Romo and Dez Bryant, a rebound from the best offensive line in football, and making the right choice with the fourth overall pick, the Cowboys most definitely can win the division next year. When you think about how overrated Washington was last year, how messed up everything seems to be in Philadelphia, and the chaotic nature of the Giants, it actually seems like Dallas should be the favorite.
8:30 AM EST: 46 out of the top 99 free agents as ranked by NFL.com remain on Day 3 of free agency.
8:03 AM EST: Looks like the Cowboys are still in play for Chris Long despite his visit to Atlanta. And if Long thought Quinn was awesome, wait till he meets Marinelli.
Source on Chris Long's visit w/ Falcons: He thought coach Quinn was awesome. Visit was good, but he's taking 2/3 more visits. Being patient.

7:14 AM EST: The Browns were hoping for a trade until the very end, but that ain't happening. Tony Grossi of ESPNCleveland.com reports that the Browns are expected to cut Manziel by the close of business on Friday.
7:08 AM EST: Joe Banner, obviously an early riser, with a timely reminder that free agency is fraught with uncertainties.
https://t.co/UIseOTVq1X. Good insight here. Almost 2/3 of these signing won't work out. Good to remember that now.

2:55 AM EST: Aaron Wilson summarizes yesterday's events at Valley Ranch
Cowboys brought in Nolan Carroll, Cedric Thornton, Matt Moore for visits. signing Thornton

8:45 PM EST: Jason LaCanfora said yesterday that compensatory draft picks are expected to be announced today, and adds that they can be traded this year (previous reports suggested that wouldn't happen until next year); make of that what you want. Follow the link for OverTheCap's projections for 2016 Compensatory Draft Picks.
NFL expected to notify teams of awarded comp picks tomorrow. Few weeks earlier than in years past. And now they can be traded! Buckle up!
