Todd McShay Mock Draft V. 3.0: Cowboys Get Defensive With Joey Bosa

ESPN mocker Todd McShay produces his latest mock draft.

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

The scouting combine is over, Pro Days and free agency are coming up, but to past the time there is always the fun of mock drafts. Today, we take a look at the latest effort from Todd McShay at ESPN. In McShay's previous effort, he had the Cowboys grabbing the future replacement for Tony Romo in the person of Carson Wentz. That won't be happening in this mock draft, Wentz is already off the board by the time the Cowboys pick. Jared Goff then? Nope, the Cowboys decide to help out their thin defensive line this time. After the Titans take offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil, the Browns make their move and grab Carson Wentz. The Cowboys pick then hinges on the Chargers decision at the number three spot, McShay has them drafting DeForest Buckner.

That leaves Dallas with some premium choices on defense like Myles Jack, Jalen Ramsy or Joey Bosa. In this case, it's Bosa.

4. Dallas Cowboys - Joey Bosa, DE, Ohio State

Bosa plays with great leverage and is masterful at using his hands to shed blockers. He didn't have the best showing at the combine, but once you turn on the film, it's clear that Bosa is a top-tier player in this draft. Dallas needs impact defenders, and Bosa would be ready to start from Day 1 in Rod Marinelli's 4-3 scheme. CB Jalen Ramsey is another option here.

We discussed Joey Bosa previously. He's probably not going to be a premium sack artist (although you never know for sure), but he does have skills that could make him a very disruptive presence along the defensive line. In our poll the BTB community was split about drafting Bosa - 55% were okay with the idea, 45% didn't really like it. With Jalen Ramsey, Myles Jack and Jared Goff still on the board, it's a tough call. Even scouts seem to be splt on Bosa's ceiling as a professional.
