It's finally draft day. Tonight, the 2016 NFL Draft begins and shortly thereafter we'll know what the Dallas Cowboys do with their fourth-overall pick. But before we get there, let's take a look at two final mock drafts from a couple of heavyweights in the draft season.
First up, Mike Mayock. He does positional ratings throughout the draft season, but ends up doing a mock draft right before the event kicks off. He posted his mock 1.0 last night. His first three picks are Jared Goff, Carson Wentz and surprise...Notre Dame tackle Ronnie Stanley instead of Laremy Tunsil. The Cowboys would be fine with either tackle being the pick for the Chargers, leaving Dallas a clear shot at the players they really want.
In this case, Mayock says Ezekiel Elliott.
PICK NO. 4 DAL
EZEKIEL ELLIOTT RB OHIO ST.
DeMarco Murray led the league in rushing two seasons ago for Dallas. But Elliott is a better football player. Put him behind that Cowboys offensive line and that takes pressure off of Tony Romo.
Moving over to McShay, who posts regular mock drafts but this is his final one of the season. His first three picks mirror Mayock's. Goff, Wentz and Stanley. So two guys are posting Stanley to the Chargers with their final mock? Sounds like rumors have been circulating that the Chargers have moved off Tunsil to Stanley. This could be good for Dallas. They can either choose the player they want, or possibly entice a trade up from another team to grab Tunsil. If they do make the pick at four, McShay says:
4. Dallas Cowboys
Jalen Ramsey, CB, Florida State
This would be a tough decision for the Cowboys between Ramsey and Ohio State RB Ezekiel Elliott, two immediate difference-makers on opposite sides of the ball. A very physical corner who can also play safety, Ramsey has elite cover skills and rare athleticism.
The more you look, the more you read, it does seem like the Cowboys are going to pick between Elliott or Ramsey, depending on Ramsey's availability. Now watch them go out and draft Joey Bosa!
