The last act of building the roster for the Dallas Cowboys is underway. The initial waiver claims have been made, and now the Cowboys will be able to start signing players to their practice squad. However, for those who were eager to see Dallas pick up some players on the waiver wire, it looks like disappointment is the order of the day.
The Cowboys did not make any waiver claims, which is surprising. They lost OT Bryan Witzmann to KC— Todd Archer (@toddarcher) September 4, 2016
There were several players waived by other teams that drew the interest of many, but the Cowboys did not share the feeling. Witzmann may well have been a candidate for Dallas’ practice squad, but he is no longer available. One thing that will be of some relief is that there is no report of Rico Gathers being claimed, something that worried many.
There is an open question as to whether the Cowboys did not submit any waiver claims, as the Archer tweet implies, or if they might have some in that were taken ahead of them. The claims made by the three teams ahead of Dallas in the claim order are:
Browns claimed five: RB George Atkinson, DB Briean Boddy-Calhoun, DB Marcus Burley, DE Tyrone Holmes, LB Corey Lemonier
Holmes and Desir were both names that came up frequently as players that some thought the Cowboys should make claims on.
[Update] Per Todd Archer, DE Mike McAdoo has been placed on IR. The team looks to be stashing him for next year.
[Update] Dave Helman of DallasCowboys.com confirmed that the Cowboys did not make any waiver claims, as Archer first reported.
[Update] Rico Gathers has sent out a tweet indicating he is on the practice squad.
Glad to still be apart of the Dallas Cowboys organization. #CuttWork continues .— Rico Gathers (@kinggatz2) September 4, 2016

[Update] Deon King, per his college coach.
Great news from Deon King just now. He will be on the practice squad for the @dallascowboys. Still has work to do.— Latrell Scott (@CoachScottNSU) September 4, 2016
[Update 2:24 CT] Practice squad now up to 50% with addition of Andy Jones.

[Update 2:58 CT] Per a report from Todd Archer, the Cowboys have waived Jameill Showers to make room for Mark Sanchez on the roster. Tony Romo remains active, although Archer said a final decision has not been made regarding his status for the season. Showers will likely be added to the PS if he clears waivers.
[Update 3:04 CT] List of PS signings from the team:
The Cowboys also announced 7 practice squad signings -- Jake Brendel, Gathers, Andy Jones, D. King, Mayle, Ryan Russell, Austin Traylor.— David Helman (@HelmanDC) September 4, 2016
