Cowboys linebacker Damien Wilson avoids charges in July 4th assault incident

The Cowboys linebacker looks like he will escape legal trouble.

NFL: Dallas Cowboys at Denver Broncos Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Back on July 4th of this summer, linebacker Damien WIlson was arrested for aggravated assault charges after a dispute over a parking space at a fireworks celebration. It was alleged that Wilson bumped another person with his truck and that he brandished a rifle during a subsequent argument.

Wilson will not face any charges from the incident after the grand jury sent back its judgement today.

At the time, Wilson admitted that road rage played a part in what happened. But the grand jury didn’t see enough to indict Wilson.

Wilson has played in all five games this season, but the Cowboys have been struggling at the linebacker spot. With Sean Lee likely returning after the bye, and Anthony Hitchens already back, Wilson may not see too much of the field going forward. The Cowboys have Jaylon Smith and Justin Durant in reserve, so Wilson may be limited to special teams for a while.
