As auditions for 2018 start, 2017 Draft class shows up strong

Here we are again with our hopes replenished after the Boys shower up big in national television stating the case that they belong among NFC greatest teams and deserve a spot for the playoffs. Not so fast, as plenty needs to happen before we even control our own destiny, we could win all the way and still miss the playoffs, so don't hold your breath but this definitely was a grasp of fresh air.

This victory seemed loop sided and consistent in all three fronts but instead of breaking down what we all saw last night I want to focus on the 2017 draft class performance.

  • 1st Round Pick - Taco Charlton

Taco made the most on limited opportunities and he did show up on the stat lines with 2 tackles and a strip sack with over 5 minutes left in the second quarter at the Redskins own 25 yard line. Samaje Perine recovered the ball, but it was a great play by this year first round pick.

  • 2nd Round Pick - Chido Awuzie

For the first time in this season he got the start over Anthony Brown as Marinelli tried to shook things up a bit in the secondary. He did make the most of it and seems like he'll be starting from now on going forward. He made 3 tackles and defended 3 passes. He looked poised at left cornerback and kept Cousins from throwing in his direction often.

  • 3rd Round Pick - Jourdan Lewis

It was a quite game for him but at least he was not on the end of Redskins touchdowns and big plays. he finished the game with 3 tackles bringing his total to 38 on the year. Clearly the best season of this draft class by far, mostly due to injuries or limited time.

  • 4th Round Pick - Ryan Switzer

Finally a Cowboy punt return for a Touchdown. Last time that happened was October 13, 2013 when Dwayne Harris took it to the house against the Redskins as well. Switzer broke his own 83 yard return showing why the Cowboys invested a 4th round pick on him.

  • 5th Round Pick - Xavier Woods

He played hard delivering the wood out there. He was credited with 3 tackles. Woods now has 30 tackles to his name, 3 passes defended on his limited opportunities and one interception. For a second string safety those numbers make the case to ask for more opportunities, though Jeff Heath had a great game last night.

So there you have it, it shows like this rookie class is finally putting it together and just in time to perhaps salvage the season, but most definitely for putting together a nice resume presentation for next year's roster.
