Cowboys injury update, Raiders game: David Irving still not practicing

The first practice of the week for the Cowboys has some major absences.

As the Dallas Cowboys prepare for the Oakland Raiders, they will be missing some prominent players at their first practice of the week. Among them is defensive tackle David Irving, who missed last week with a concussion and still isn’t ready to practice. The Giants were able to muster a decent running game early on Dallas by going right through the middle of the line. Having Irving there might have helped. The Cowboys defensive line was also not as effective rushing the passer against New York as you might have expected given their poor offensive line, again maybe Irving would have helped.

Jason Garrett did say Irving is improving and will work on the side today while possibly getting some practice time in later this week. Hopefully he can recover in time for the Oakland game on Sunday night.

Tyron Smith and La’el Collins won’t practice today, but they are both expected to practice tomorrow. Looks like it will be a “veteran’s day off” schedule for those two the rest of the year. Collins has made it two straight weeks of playing well with the bulging disk, good news for the Cowboys offensive line.

Orlando Scandrick is expected to be limited today as he tries to return from two fractured transverse process bones in his back. Interestingly, he was hardly missed on Sunday as the Cowboys young gun secondary played extremely well. Will the Cowboys give him another week off?

Justin Durant will be limited in today’s practice, and Brice Butler will not practice. He didn’t play last week, if he misses this week he’ll miss the opportunity to play against his old team that traded him to Dallas.
