Jerry Lai-USA TODAY Sports

In our inaugural mock draft database of the season, published during Senior Bowl Week on January 23, we surveyed 35 different mock drafts by some of the better-known draftniks on the interwebs and found that 31 of the 35 mocks were projecting the Cowboys to take a defensive player.

Today's edition of our mock draft database features 40 different mocks, all of which were published after January 23, But while the mocks are new, the overall tendency for the Cowboys is not: 33 of the 40 mocks have the Cowboys picking a defensive player.

The table below lists the 40 mocks by their publication date and shows which player is mocked to the Cowboys. For your convenience, the table is sortable.

Sidney Jones and Charles Harris seem to have fallen out of favor with the mock draft crowd, while Taco Charlton and John Ross have seen the fortunes improve, though this doesn't necessarily mean much coming from a bunch of mock drafts in early February.

Last year for example, we tallied 37 mocks on Feb. 5 and 30 on Jan. 29. And of those 67 combined mock drafts, only one (Jeff Risdon of RealGM.com) had the Cowboys picking Ezekiel Elliott.

We're still very far away from having a consensus pick for the Cowboys emerge from these mock drafts, though if you sort by position, DE (25 of 40 mocks) is the clear front-runner, followed by CB and WR (both 6). Going by the results of this iteration of our mock draft database, a quartet of players seems to be hogging the mock draft vote of the assembled draftniks above: Taco Charlton, Charles Harris, Takkarist McKinley, and John Ross.

Which one of the four would be your choice?
