New, comments

The Cowboys secondary has a lot of free agents, and they likely won’t keep them all.

Four prominent members of the Cowboys secondary are free agents, so keeping them all is highly unlikely. One that may be on his way out the door is safety J.J. Wilcox. A report from ESPN has the Tampa Bay Buccaneers showing interest in Wilcox, and he is reportedly open to the idea.

One player no one is talking about who is on the Bucs' radar is Dallas Cowboys hard-hitting safety J.J. Wilcox. I'm told that there's mutual interest and right now, Keith Tandy is the Bucs' only returning safety from last year's 53-man roster, since Ryan Smith has moved to cornerback. Bradley McDougald and Chris Conte are both unrestricted free agents.

The Cowboys desperately want to keep Barry Church in the fold as their starting safety to pair with Byron Jones. That may be problematic because there are other teams reportedly interested in his services like the Carolina Panthers. Wilcox could be their fallback plan if they can’t land Church. But with this interest showed by the Bucs, it might cost more than Dallas wants to pay for his services.

Wilcox has had a tough tenure in Dallas. He’s known for making huge hits that are physical an intimidating, but he’s also known for poor angles, not wrapping up on tackles and blown coverages. After being moved to a reserve role in 2016, he performed much better.
