With the 92nd pick in the 2017 NFL draft, the Cowboys went back to the cornerback well and picked Jourdan Lewis out of Michigan. Many fans might not have had Lewis on their radar since he’s a smaller corner, something the Cowboys generally stay away from, but he’s tremendous value at this pick.

There is a red flag, he was recently hit with a domestic violence charge. He is going to have to go to trial in July. You can read more about that here. There is also a more detailed description of the incident here.

NFL.com says:

SOURCES TELL US "If he were bigger he would go in the first round. Love everything about the way he plays. He's cocky and tough and doesn't take any (expletive) from anyone. And sub-package teams will love him because he won't kill you against the run." -- Director of scouting for NFC team

NFL COMPARISON Adam Jones

BOTTOM LINE Technician with the foot quickness and overall athleticism to handle himself from the slot. Shouldn't be much of a detriment against the run for teams who want to attack on the ground from 11 personnel. Excels from press and plays with confidence and edge. Lack of size will scare some teams and could cause him to fall out of the first round, but he has the ability to become a very good slot corner for a man-cover team. His draft projection is based on a pending legal issue.

Cowboys Needs:

Defensive line/edge rusher: The Cowboys have needed help here for years, ever since the departure of DeMarcus Ware. DE Taco Charlton

Cornerback: The Cowboys lost Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne in free agency. They still have three corners who can play, in Orlando Scandrick, Nolan Carroll and Anthony Brown, but they need depth, and a possible upgrade. CB Chidobe Awuzie

Safety: Starter Barry Church and sometime-starter/reserve J.J. Wilcox both exited in free agency, leaving the Cowboys with Byron Jones and question marks. Jeff Heath is currently the other starter, but a high pick int he draft could become the starter at the position.

Right Tackle: Doug Free is retiring, and Chaz Green has yet to show he can stay healthy. Free agent signee Byron Bell is a stop-gap, the Cowboys need to find the future at the position.
