According to Todd Archer, there is a list of Cowboys players who will not be participating in the upcoming practices. Wide receivers Cole Beasley and Lucky Whitehead are still suffering hamstring issues and will likely miss practice. That means Ryan Switzer continues to get the chance to show what he can do, something he’s taken advantage of in the OTA practices. The Cowboys will also be careful with defensive linemen DeMarcus Lawrence, Benson Mayowa and Stephen Paea, all recovering from various injuries.
Ryan Switzer did indeed impress, which is never a bad thing for a rookie. Cole Beasley (who’s hamstring made us think back to last season) isn’t somebody that has to worry about his job, but what about everyone’s favorite gadget player Lucky Whitehead?
Hamstrings are serious business for wide receivers (Miles Austin weeps) and for someone who is theoretically battling for a roster spot, getting it back to full-go status is of utmost importance. Per Lucky’s Snapchat account (always a great follow) it seems like he’s feeling better:
Lucky Whitehead is without a doubt on the bubble as the Cowboys gear up for training camp, but at least he’s seemingly going to be able to give it his best shot. With roster spots accounted for Dez Bryant, Terrance Williams, plus the aforementioned Beasley and Switzer... it’s hard to see Lucky beating out Brice Butler or the most popular pet cat around - Noah Brown.
If I were the type of person to pick apart words on an insanely deep level, I’d consider how Lucky said the hamstring was “slowly” coming back. To be fair, we’re only a month removed from when all of this really broke out, but considering how fluky hamstrings can be you have to wonder if things can really get where they need to be in the next two weeks.
