Jerry Jones says Jaylon Smith will make his Cowboys debut on Saturday against Colts

We finally have a date for when Jaylon Smith will make his Cowboys debut. It’ll be this Saturday at home against the Colts.

The last time the Dallas Cowboys took the field inside of AT&T Stadium the infamous 3rd and 20 play happened. The next time they do it, Jaylon Smith will be in uniform and playing.

Jerry Jones confirmed after Tuesday’s practice that the team’s second-round pick from a year ago, who has yet to hit the field, will do so for the first time this Saturday when the Cowboys host the Indianapolis Colts during Week 2 of the preseason (third game for the Cowboys).

This is a monumental step for Jaylon Smith, his ability to ever play football again has been in doubt since he suffered a horrific injury during the Fiesta Bowl in January of 2016.

The phrases “drop foot”, “AFO”, and “brace” in general have been uttered a lot since then, but it seems like it was all well worth it as Jaylon will finally be available for us to see in legitimate competitive action.

There is still doubt as to how much Jaylon will play throughout the 2017 season. Saturday will be a strong indicator as to how much that truly is. For what it’s worth, Jaylon did take snaps with the first team defense on Tuesday.

This news could also be an indication of how much the Cowboys plan to play the rest of their starters. It’s conceivable to believe that Dak Prescott, Dez Bryant, and the rest will see time in addition to Jaylon.

UPDATE: Dak Prescott will play.
