After speculation, trepidation, and perhaps some meditation, the biggest potential loss the Dallas Cowboys could face is no longer one. ESPN’s Todd Archer reported on Wednesday morning that Will McClay will be staying with the Cowboys.

Archer notes in his report that permission was granted for McClay to interview with the Texans, the only team capable of swooping him away in many people’s minds, and that’s a pretty bold move by Jerry Jones and Co. to make. Bold moves sometimes work, as McClay didn’t even want to interview.
In a way, the Cowboys mildly tested McClay’s loyalty, at least in their own mind. “Sure Will, go interview! It’ll be good for you. We’re not panicked at all. Nope. Not at all!” However it went down, McClay’s own loyalty won out, and he’s here to stay for now.
Will McClay has run the Cowboys personnel department since 2014. The successes that the Cowboys have had in recent drafts have been attributed to him and his scouting prowess. Losing him would have been problematic to put it mildly.
With McClay officially staying put it’s likely that we’ll start to hear more about coaching vacancies filling up on the Cowboys. This could be an enjoyable week. Let’s hope for no more surprises, shall we?
